Janel Garza

Born 1987 – United States

Janel Garza is a native Arizonan artist known for her abstract geometric patterns and compositions that explore themes of harmony, balance, and interconnectedness. While Garza academically pursued studies in environmental science and herbal medicine, after relocating to downtown Phoenix in 2012, she shifted her focus to the arts.

Since then, Garza has steadily built a reputation as a versatile artist, participating in numerous group exhibitions and showcasing her work in solo shows across the city. Her artistic practice spans a range of media, from sculptural wooden paintings and hand-dyed textiles to large-scale murals. Despite the variety of materials she uses, her signature style remains consistent: bold geometric compositions that reflect her ongoing exploration of structure, pattern, and the relationships between form and space.

In 2018, Garza was awarded the opportunity to create a mural at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), a milestone that marked her entry into the realm of public art. Since then, her murals have been featured in a variety of locations across Phoenix, including private residences, businesses, and even the offices of global companies such as Facebook.

Alongside her studio work, Garza is currently engaged in several public art projects within the greater Phoenix area, continuing to expand her impact in both private and public spaces.
